IRA and Roth IRA Options

There is a special incentive for certain taxpayers to make charitable contributions in 2007 and 2008.Under the Pension Protection Act signed in 2006, funds can be transferred from an IRA or Roth IRA to make a lifetime charitable gift "free" of tax obligations. To qualify, an individual must be at least 70 ˝ years old and have an IRA or Roth IRA. While you cannot claim, a charitable contribution deduction for the same amount, the withdrawal from the account is not treated as taxable income, but does count as a "minimum distribution" and may be advantageous to certain taxpayers, particularly if they claim the standard deduction rather than itemizing deductions.

Since your ability to claim a federal income tax deduction for a charitable contribution to the Foundation will be directly dependent upon your own particular income tax situation, you are urged to contact your personal tax advisor prior to making a charitable contribution to the Foundation. Once a decision has been made, please contact Interfaith's Development Coordinator at (281) 367-1230.
